Edna Harris, age 93, died Friday, June 29, 2018 after a short illness. She was born in Rutherford County, TN, in September 1924. Her family moved to Nashville when she was an infant. She was a member of East High School’s Class of 1943 and started work at Bell South upon graduation.
She married her husband, Philip M. Harris of Rutherford County, in Nashville on November 15, 1946. She worked for Bell South for 32 years, and she retired in 1979.
Edna was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene for over 50 years, where she participated in the Pate Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the Nashville Chapter of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers of America. She was prolific and proficient with her favorite hobbies including sewing, crafting, cooking, and especially caring for others. She considered trips to Czechoslovakia, Germany, and Italy as highlights of her life when she and Philip visited friends he had made in Italy during his service in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Edna is predeceased by her parents, John Burr (J.B.) and Sarah Ellis Neal Edmondson, and her beloved husband of 68 years, Philip, who died in 2015, as well as cousins, nine sisters-and brothers-in-law, and her beloved great-great niece Rylee Smith.
Edna is survived by her sister-in-law, Katherine Harris Wood of Murfreesboro, nephews James T. (Jimmy) Harris of Murfreesboro, Gary Harris Wood of Dawsonville, GA, H. Stephen Harris, Jr., of Washington, D.C., and nieces Annelle Harris Smith and Kathy Wood Buker of Murfreesboro, Karen Farmer Case of Wilmington, DE, and Diane Harris Tarka of Montgomery Village, MD, as well as 12 great-and ten great-great nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great-niece.
She will be missed by many dear friends, especially her neighbors Linda, Harry, and Brady Murphy, whom she loved as family.
Pallbearers will be Harry Murphy, Brady Murphy, Steve Case, Andrew Case, Don Nicholson, and Tye Hargrove. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Pate Sunday School Class from the First Church of the Nazarene, and the Nashville Chapter of the AT&T Telephone Pioneers.
A heartfelt appreciation to the Alive Hospice Staff for the love and care of Edna.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Edna’s memory may be made to the “AT&T Telephone Pioneers”, 333 Commerce Street, Nashville, TN 37201, directed to their Hug-a-Bear Project which provides hand-made teddy bears to agencies who assist children in crisis.

On Tuesday, July 10, 2018, a luncheon reception for friends and family will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville from twelve o’clock noon until one thirty in the afternoon.
Gathering of family and friends from one thirty until two thirty with service in Dignity Hall at two thirty, with interment immediately following in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
