Dorothy Jean "Dot" Skinner, entered the arms of Jesus on October 31, 2018 at the age of 89. She was born on July 8, 1929 in Louisville, KY to the late Ernest J. Kaufman & Mildred (Millie) P. Kaufman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Robert Nathan Skinner, Jr.; siblings Thomas Kaufman, Raymond Kaufman, Ernest (Bootsie) Kaufman, Helen Marie Kaufman, Norman Kaufman and twins Victor and John Kaufman.
Dot was a 1953 graduate of Georgetown Baptist College and attended Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY where she studied missions and was serving as a home bound missionary in New Orleans. After relocating to Nashville, TN, she and Robert were married at McKendree United Methodist Church in 1959 by Reverend Thurston Fowler. Dot loved the Lord and was a student of the Bible. She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for children, adults, and senior adults, and as a leader in the missionary society during her 59 years at McKendree.
Dot was a homemaker before joining her husband in his law practice where she supported him for 25 years until his untimely death. Her ability to offer spiritual guidance and her kind heart provided comfort to clients in need.
Dot is survived by her loving children, David Nathan (Tiina) Skinner and Jeanna Skinner (Randy) Brightwell; and four grandchildren, Christopher Brightwell, Caroline Brightwell, Caleb Skinner, and Grace Skinner.
The family will have a Gathering of Family & Friends on Sunday, November 4th 2018, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Mount Olivet Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 5th 2018 at the Chapel of Mount Olivet Funeral Home, with Rev. Stephen Handy officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to McKendree United Methodist Church, 523 Church Street, Nashville, TN 37219 or Alive Hospice, 1718 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203.
