Dorothy Compton McGinnis, age 91, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Born on June 5, 1933, in Oakland, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of the late Leslie B. and Martha Jane Compton.
Dorothy's life was a testament to her unwavering love for her family and her vibrant spirit. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a source of joy and strength to all who knew her. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed.
Dorothy was married to Thomas E. McGinnis from 1951 to 1973. She had a passion for flowers and was an avid gardener, always finding joy in nurturing the beauty of nature. A dedicated advocate for health and wellness, she prioritized exercise through daily walks and as a long-time member of the YMCA. For 70 years, she was a faithful member of the Granny White Church of Christ in Nashville, where she formed lasting bonds within her community.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Sandra McGinnis Wilson (Byron), Jill McGinnis Manners (Mike), and Dorothy Suzan McGinnis (Mike Lannom); four grandsons; three granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and was the last of her five siblings.
A gathering of family and friends to honor Dorothy's life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, located at 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204. This will be followed by a celebration of life service beginning at 1:00pm.
Dorothy's legacy of love and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
