Dorothy Jean “Dot” Porter Hawkins, age 87, of Brentwood, TN, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Dot was born on February 6, 1933 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Marie Pardue Porter and Lonnie Porter. She married Hoyt Hawkins on November 9, 1952 at Woodmont Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. She was married to Mr. Hawkins until his death in 1982.
Dot graduated from Nashville Central High School, and attended the University of Tennessee Nashville. She raised her children while her husband, Hoyt Hawkins traveled extensively as a member of the Jordanaires Quartet singing group. She entered the work force to work in the hair care industry and later in administration for Cordage of Nashville Paper Company.

Dot loved the outdoors, auction sales, her pool, traveling to see her children, creating the perfect “meat and three” home cooked supper, and gardening. She was a terrific seamstress and enjoyed producing unique, well-made clothing for her children. She was a great cook in the Southern tradition, and she loved to fish and boat.
A devoted wife and mother, Dot supported her husband’s career in music business, and raising her two children, Hylton and Diane. She loved her pets and she cooked them a chicken dinner every night. She worked hard to maintain a beautiful home and gardens, trying to preserve some of Nashville’s elegance from the mid-century as Nashville grew. Dot loved the history of Nashville and her Crieve Hall neighborhood.
