Donald "DJ" Rhea Jordan, age 84, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee and a native Nashvillian, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022. He was born on June 4, 1938, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Roy Anderson Jordan and Katie Rhea Jordan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dot Balfour, Bettye Lunn, Andy Jordan.
DJ is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janie Jordan of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; children, Dr. Michael (Katie) Jordan, Roy C. (Marty) Jordan, Jason (Debbie) Roberts, Eric (Amy) Roberts; grandchildren, Nicholas Jordan, Zachary Jordan, Elizabeth Jordan, and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah Womack.
DJ grew up in the Donelson area of Nashville. He was involved in many sports while attending Donelson High School. While playing basketball he received the nickname of Doggie, because of the way he would kick his leg out during a shot. DJ was named to the All-Nashville Football in 1954, served as football Captain for Donelson High School in 1955. After high school, he enrolled in the University of Nebraska where he played Football from 1958 until 1961. DJ graduated with a bachelor's degree in Human Resources.
After college, DJ went to work for Genesco (General Shoe Company) in Human Resources until 1982. In 1983, until his retirement, he worked for the Texas Boot Company, which at one time had four factories in Tennessee. He was a Christian in the Methodist faith.
DJ was a longtime member of Ravenwood Country Club, serving as a board member. He was an avid Tennis player who had numerous titles and competed in club, local and state competitions. In 1985, he was ranked as the Nashville Senior Tennis champion. DJ wasn't a half bad golfer, yet when it was hot outside, he would rather drive the golf cart in circles to keep cool. DJ was a board chair of the Donelson-Hermitage YMCA.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 from twelve noon until three o'clock in the afternoon at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in Dignity Hall of Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, with Interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers, Jamie Jamison, Fred Powell, Kent Taylor, Nicholas Jordan, Zachary Jordan and Roy Jordan.
