Born August 20, 1940, in Grayson County, Kentucky, Deanna graduated from Rockport High School. Shortly after graduating, she relocated to Olathe, Kansas where she met and married James Stokes. They had three daughters and eventually settled in Brentwood, TN. Sadly, James Stokes passed away in 1983.
Deanna worked for Baird Ward Printing Company where she met her second husband, Bill Cunningham. They married in 1987 and moved to La Vergne, TN. Deanna retired from the publishing industry in 2007 and lived out the rest of her life with her beloved Bill. Known for her amazing sense of humor, she was always a favorite of the many kids that came and went through her front door. She always offered a smile and of course, something to eat. If she wasn’t feeding random kids, you would catch her doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, playing solitaire or yelling at the tv while watching her favorite, the Kentucky Wildcats’ basketball team.
Deanna is preceded in death by her first husband, James Stokes and her parents, Charles and Mary Durbin (Louisville, KY). Deanna is survived by her sister, Karen Goff (Madisonville, KY), daughters, Tracey Stokes and Tammy Stephens (Nashville, TN), Tanya Stokes (St. Petersburg, FL), niece Gina Bradford (Nashville, TN) and grandchildren, Ashley Scott and Tara Jordan (Nashville, TN).
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Alive Hospice.
A Gathering of Family and Friends for Deanna will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204, followed by a Celebration of Life from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
