Clyde Crawford Kelly – Age 99 of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in the evening on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mary C. Kelly, and his parents Jordon Dyer Kelly and Marvie Self Kelly and siblings Cleb, Gertrude, and Bill. Clyde is survived by his son C. Philip (Rebecca) Kelly, grandson Jonathan Philip (Shanna) Kelly and great-granddaughter Cassandra Jean, and grandson James Andrew (Megan) Kelly and great-grandsons Jak Williams and McCarter James.
Clyde served in World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. After an honorable discharge, he attended Tennessee Tech University receiving a degree in electrical engineering. Following graduation, he married Mary C. Kelly in 1949 and in 1950 moved to Nashville, TN where he was employed by the Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Company (also South Central Bell) from which he retired in 1984 as a District Manager.
Clyde engaged in volunteer work for various nonprofit organizations including the Boy Scouts of America, American Heart Association, Red Cross, United Way, and others.
Clyde was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church, an active member of the Sanctuary Choir and served in many areas. His favorite area of ministry was greeting children each year at Vacation Bible School. He was a former member of Woodmont Baptist Church.
Clyde loved to travel. He and Mary made multiple trips to Europe, Canada, and Mexico. They also visited all but two of the fifty United States and visited all ninety-five counties in Tennessee. In 1998, he traveled to Ukraine on a mission trip with the Forest Hills Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir.
Clyde was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family unconditionally. With his death, there are memories that will forever stir the hearts of friends who knew him and family members who loved him dearly.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27, 2022, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Nashville with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 p.m.
