Claudia is survived by her husband, Sidney J. Maddox; daughter, Catherine Maddox West (husband, Chris); son, Sidney Garrison (Garry) Maddox (wife, Denise); grandson, Trenton Maddox; granddaughter, Taylor (GiGi) Maddox; and sister, Nancy Garrison Hemmrich.
Daughter of the late Claude Rasor Garrison and Lois Owings Garrison, Claudia was born in Greenville, SC, on October 20, 1936, but grew up on Green Hills Drive in Nashville, TN. She went to Stokes School and later graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1954. While attending Furman University in Greenville, SC, she met Sidney Maddox of LaGrange, GA. They married on December 22, 1956 and she graduated from Furman in August of 1957.
Claudia was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was a choir member, former teacher, and a past president of the Baptist Women. She always found time to visit those in need, who were often lucky enough to receive a gift of her delicious cooking. She was a gracious hostess with an outgoing personality and had an infectious laugh that lit up a room. Her favorite time of year was Christmas and her annual “Christmas Carol Sing-along” was the highlight of the holiday season for family and friends. She enjoyed golf at Hillwood Country Club, traveling with family and friends, playing the piano, singing, playing a game of friendly bridge, needlepointing, and tailgating and cheering at Vanderbilt football games.
She was Past Chapter Regent of Fort Nashborough Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Past President of the South Carolina Club, Past President of the Current Events Club, and was a Nashville Veterans Hospital volunteer for many years.
Claudia’s true passions and priorities in life were her family, her church, and her country. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to know her.
A graveside service will be held on the south side of Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville, TN, on Wednesday, July 8 at 10 am. All are invited with the caveat that everyone wears a mask and practices social distancing. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date yet to be determined.
