Charles Sheridan “Charlie” Wells, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2021. He was preceded in death by his daughter Sammie Wells and is survived by his wife, Johnnie Elizabeth Wells and their four children; Charles Sheridan Wells III (Martha), John Colley Wells (Corinne), Tina Wells Muzikowski (Bob), and Missy Wells Tucker (Tuck). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren.
Charlie was born June 7, 1932, in Paducah, KY, and grew up in Nashville where he attended Overbrook School and Father Ryan High School. He began his undergraduate studies at Notre Dame and later transferred to Vanderbilt University. He also served in the Korean War in the United States Army.
In the late summer of 1955, Charlie met and married the love of his life, Johnnie Elizabeth Colley. They were married February 2, 1956, and were blessed to celebrate 65 years of marriage this year before he passed away.
He started his career in Club Management as Assistant Manager of Richland Country Club, later becoming Manager of Brentwood Country Club and Bluegrass Country Club. He was the initial Manager of Ober Gatlinburg. In 1963, he became a licensed real estate agent working for Randall Phillips Builders, and subsequently became the Broker/Sales Manager for Randall Phillips - Phil Hall for 30 years. He was a Lifetime Member of the Nashville Board of Realtors Million Dollar Sales Club. When not working, Charlie enjoyed playing golf, fishing and playing cards with various men groups.
Visitation with the family will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN 37204 on Friday, October 29th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. The family will have a private graveside service earlier that day. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Humane Society.
