I'm very sorry for your loss. I met Charlie when I went to Nashville  to make it big, he was so cool, he let us play at his museum, we really loved his double talking, so cool, he is missed, we were a couple of his "cats" !

I am a waitress at a Waffle House in Lakeland, TN. Charlie used to come one Thursday a month to eat on his way to the casinos. He was a very sweet man and it was a delight to serve him. He always brightened my day. I will miss seeing him each month.

Mr. Lamb was one of the most energetic, entertaining people I ever met.I was his accountant for many years. He loved the music business and visiting everyone on Music Row. He had so many interesting and funny stories, and he would double talk to make me laugh.  He truly loved Frances, his sons and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed!

My deepest condolences to the family of Charlie.  My good memories go to the 1960s and 1970s when I visited with Frances and Charlie and the children, usually for some pickin and singing.  He will be long remembered in the Nashville music community.

Goodbye Charlie: You were a real go-getter on the music scene, one who made things happen. You were an inspiration to many of us, and I appreciated your willingness to give an assist to a newcomer. You learned my severance pay from my previous newspaper job was running low, and arranged for Al Gannaway to hire me to write a trio of narrative scripts for individual videos he was creating from his Classic Country clips (on Jim Reeves, Ray Price and Faron Young), and made sure I was paid up front. Then you engaged me to ghost-write your "book" - "Country Music World of Charlie Lamb" - still being sold by Gary Walker at his Great Escape stores. I recall you cautioning me "time is money," but let somebody approach you on the street seeking a handout, and you'd stop to give him your last dollar. (You said it'll come back to you.) Some say you were a little guy, but you sure had a big heart. You taught us a lot about the business. While honored a couple years ago to receive a Charlie Lamb Journalism award, what made it so special is it bears the name of a man I was proud to know. God-speed Charlie. - Walt Trott, Nashville

 So sorry to hear that Charlie is gone, I will miss his smiling face, funny stories and the double-talk he was known for.  I worked with Charlie for many years at The Great Escape store on Broadway, we got to talking during lunch one day and come to find out I also had worked with his son Charlie during my time at Sears in the Parts Department. He got a big kick out of that.  Did not know about his passing until late this afternoon of the 9th. Charlie, I will always be grateful to Stacy Harris for giving you my number when you called to ask her if she knew anyone who could do some typing for you. That was five years ago.  This was the beginning of a very special friendship.  Many times you told me that I was like a part of your family; I felt the same about you! You loved to go to lunch and you loved to tell your music business stories; I loved to listen! You loved to play the slots and we rode the bus to Casino Aztar three times, and had a ball!   (Well, except for the time I lost you and we missed the bus home!) We laughed a lot. It was so hard for me to see that you were slipping away. In the last year, your calls to me were of a different nature. Often, I'd answer the phone and hear you say, "Hey Diane, what day is it?" It's a sad day, Charlie...that's what day it is. Love, Diane

I am so very sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I first encountered him when I wanted to interview him for my book on Colonel Parker. Charlie did a whole tape for me by himself, recalling all his memories of the Colonel. That was incredibly gracious. Then I finally met him when that book won a Belmont Award. He was lovely to me, but even kinder when I won The Charlie Lamb Award for Excellence in Country Music Journalism. I was so honored. I will miss him. He always put a smile on my face. And gosh, the things he knew....he was an archive all unto himself...

I'll never forget meeting Charlie, when, a pipe lodged in his mouth, he introduced himself and proceeded to befuddle me with his "patented" double talk!

When I got to know Charlie better I tried to assist him in righting the wrongs of music industry newcomers, who, lacking knowledge of Charlie's contributions as they gained positions of authority of their own within the Country Music Association, never acting on opportunities to honor him in life with his cherished and deserved wish to be inducted during his lifetime into the Country Music Hall of Fame (Charlie being a founding CMA member).

Similarly, when another journalist bailed out of a promise to help Charlie assemble a music industry, Who's Who for R.O.P.E., I was flattered when Charlie called me to help him get the job done. 

These experiences helped me to get to know Charlie even better and to feel the injustice he felt (prompting me, at every opportunity, to request a correction) when my colleagues would write about another music industry veteran, anointing him with the honorary title (one, curiously given his own impressive credentials, he has refused to renounce) of the honorary "Mayor of Music Row"- a title that historically, by right as well as by prior attribution- belongs soley to Charlie Lamb.

So naturally when Gary and Peggy Lamb needed someone with a background as a publicist to help coordinate and publicize the famous Music Row tribute to Charlie at BMI on August 29, 2000, once again I could not refuse.

It was fun to go to lunch with Charlie and amusing when he would call with apologies for not making good on intentions to "do" subsequent luncheons.  No apology was ever necessary as our friendship was unconditional.

Even though it meant finding another destination for my electric typewriter when, during the dawn of the age of word-processing, I re-introduced Charlie to Diane Jordan (whom he had met briefly a decade before), I'm glad that relationship grew to the point where Diane's attentiveness eased the pain of Charlie's otherwise difficult last years.

Like the ones before it, my last conversation with Charlie, earlier this year before his illness, ended with Charlie's reminding me that he hadn't forgotten about his invitation to do lunch and (more importantly) his telling me that he loved me.  

I couldn't have asked for more.

Sorry for your loss. Gary spoke highly of his dad. May they all be joined together again. I can hear them all laughing and joking all the way up there in Heaven! RIP

Dearest Charlie,

I have been thinking about you alot lately and wondering how you were, so I was shocked and teary to get the news yesterday.  Reading all the posts here brings home to me that one of your many gifts was making each person that you chose to shine your beautiful light on feel like they were special to you.  I know you certainly made me feel that way.  I  hope that I can pay that forward and will always try to do so with your sweet spirit in mind.
I feel so very blessed to have known you, I will remember all of the fantastical stories, and will continue to try to explain doublespeak to the uninitiated, and will never never forget you.

Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, you came to my office a few times and just filled the room with energy, passion, love, grace and an enthusiasm for music and the music business that would make any teenager tired.  You gave to all of those you knew.  You loved when you met and you were a light for many others in the business and in life.  You had a full life and you influenced so many in positive ways.  Rest in peace Charlie knowing that your passion is alive and kicking today, as that is the way that you would want it.

May God Bless You All in This Time of Sorrow.  Charlie's loneliness has ended for Our Lord has taken him home to be with Frances and Gary.  His legacy will live on in the Country Music Industry for he touched the lives of many throughout his career.
