Charles (Chick) Gilbert Donaldson age 92 Nashville, TN passed away November 9, 2019. Chick was born on January 26, 1927 in Greensburg, PA. He graduated from Jeannette High School and served our country as a member of the US Navy in World War II.
After returning home, Chick traveled to Morgantown, WVA and became a walk-on student athlete at the University of West Virginia and graduated as a four-year letterman in two sports. He earned academic and all-conference honors and was one of several iron men that played every minute of every football game during the 1954 season.
Following graduation, Chick spent 11 years as an assistant football coach before pursuing other career opportunities. He and his family relocated to Nashville as Chick worked in several different business segments. The last years of his career were spent in law enforcement with the Davidson County Sheriff’s department and the Davidson County Court System as a court officer for Judge William Faimon.
Chick was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Naples Donaldson. His parents Charles and Alice Donaldson, sisters Mary Kelly and Genevieve Colt. He is survived by his son Randy, daughter in law Andrea and grandsons Andrew and Joseph. He is also survived by his brother James Donaldson and several nieces and nephews as well as his brother and sisters in laws.
Visitation will be Friday, November 8, 2019 from 10 am to 12 noon at Marshall Donnelly Funeral Home, 201 25th Avenue North Nashville, TN. A memorial service will follow the visitation, with Deacon Joe Holzmer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics Nashville, 305 Holly Lane White House, TN 37188, Gigi’s Playhouse Nashville or the Nashville Dolphins Swim team.
The Donaldson family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses, caregivers and clinical staff of NHC the Trace Waypoint and Caris Healthcare for the care provided to Chick during his time there.
