Carl Eugene Thompson, Jr, age 98 of Williamson County, TN died peacefully January 9, 2021 following complications of COVID-19. Preceded in death by his parents Carl Sr. and Jeanette Hamilton Thompson, brothers Donald and Thomas William, and sisters Betty, Polly and Sarah. He is now reunited in heaven with his loving wife of 60 years, Polly. Survived by children Lisa (Joey) Thornton and Steve (Jennifer) Thompson; grandchildren Katie (Matthew) Brickey, Emily (Brandon) Smith, David Thornton, Rachel and Chloe Thompson; and his first great-grandchild due in May. Also surviving are his siblings Fred Thompson and Emily (Donald) Loewen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was born on November 6, 1922 in Nashville, TN. He proudly served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army during World War II. Carl retired from the United Methodist Publishing House after 36 years, although his favorite career was being Papa to his five grandchildren for the past 29 years. He was a member of Woodbine Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 35 years and McKendree United Methodist Church for 60 years. His favorite hobbies included gardening, where he produced the best summer vegetables, playing card games, and spending the afternoon in the sun with a glass of red wine.
His family would like to send special thanks to the staff at The Hearth at Franklin for their compassionate care over the past 6 years.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
