Bob Montgomery

Music legend songwriter, producer, and publisher, Bob Montgomery died on December 4, 2014 after a struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was 77. Born in Lampasas, Texas on May 12, 1937. Bob attended Lubbock High School where he became best friends with Buddy Holly. The two formed a rockabilly duo called Buddy and Bob. Bob moved to Nashville in the late 50's and began an incredible career as a songwriter, publisher and producer.In the late 60's, Bob started House of Gold Music. The independent publisher was the most successful on the row! They had huge success with many songs. Among the list were "Behind Closed Doors", "She Got the Goldmine", "Love in the First Degree" and the International hit, "Wind Beneath My Wings". As a writer, Bob had many hits with Buddy Holly. He wrote "Back in Baby's Arms" for Patsy Cline and in 1976, he had his biggest hit when Dorothy Moore recorded "Misty Blue". As a producer, Bob produced many big artists, including Austin Roberts, Lobo, Marty Robbins, Razzy Bailey, Janie Fricke, Eddy Arnold, Vern Gosdin, and Joe Diffie.Bob was a true Texan. He loved fishing, hunting and gardening, but mostly, he loved life! He and his wife, Cathy, loved Australia and lived there for over 7 years. They enjoyed walking the beach and a slower place of life. Bob is survived by wife, Cathy; his three children, Echo Garrett, Dee Dee Cooley, and Kevin Montgomery; sons-in-law, Kevin Garrett and Mark Cooley; six grand-boys, Caleb and Connor Garrett, Dillon, Chase, and Declan Cooley, and Beau Montgomery; nephews, Mike Jenkins and Keegan Smith, and nieces, Christine Jenkins and Maddie Smith, as well as many family and friends. Visitation will be held Monday, December 8, 2014 from five to eight o'clock in the evening at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville, TN, with funeral on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at two o'clock in the afternoon, also at the funeral home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the W.O. Smith School of Music in Nashville, TN or the National Parkinson Foundation.
