Blair Paul Scott Jr., 76, of Nashville, TN, passed away on December 23rd, 2023, at home with his family. Paul was born on the 16th of January 1947 in Columbus, Ohio to Blair Paul Scott Sr. and Eleanor Marion Scott. Shortly after the family relocated to Camp Hill, PA where he was educated, graduating from Cedar Cliff High School in 1964. He continued his education at Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA earning a bachelor’s degree before moving to California with his first wife Sarah Kathleen Gothard and having many adventures before the birth of his beloved son Ezra Lawrence Scott in 1980 to whom he was devoted until his final moment.
Paul relocated to Nashville, TN in 1984 with Sarah and Ezra where he owned a landscape gardening business before earning a master’s degree in nursing from Vanderbilt University. During this time, he met his second wife Hollye R. Gallion. Paul was employed for 20 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse and ECMO Technician where he helped to save many lives. Following his retirement from Vanderbilt he worked as a travel nurse for 10 years with ECMO Advantage where he helped to staff burgeoning ECMO programs in Austin, Texas, and Tacoma, Washington.
After his retirement Paul devoted his remaining years to his son Ezra, his daughter-in-law Michelle, and of course his Beloved Grandchild Rowan, born December 15, 2007. Paul loved literature and art. He was a voracious reader of fiction and non-fiction. He made particularly close study of the literature of the American West where the fur trade and the history of the Mormon Church held great interest. He also had an extensive library of poetry featuring most of the published works of Mary Oliver. Paul loved and collected visual art including paintings and sculpture. He was an excellent cook and loved to share his creations with his family and friends. Paul volunteered as an adult literacy teacher and read books out loud for the Nashville Talking Library.
Paul was predeceased by his Father Blair Paul Scott, Sr., and his Mother Eleanor Marion Scott. He is survived by his Son Ezra, Daughter in Law Michelle, and Grandchild Rowan. Paul indicated his wish to be cremated with parts of his remains to be scattered at some of the many places he loved, among these are Santa Fe, NM, Camp Hill, PA, and The Narrows of the Harpeth. The family will be holding a memorial in nature this spring of 2024.
