Beverly M. Brian

Beverly Jean Malone Brian was born in Murfreesboro, TN but soon moved to Nashville with her parents Eddie Malone, who was a painting contractor, and Della Malone, who was a teacher. Influenced by Christian parents, both Beverly and her sister Justine attended David Lipscomb College and both became teachers in the Nashville Public Schools. Beverly later taught at David Lipscomb Elementary. She preferred teaching the formative years from Kindergarten to fourth grade, but at Lipscomb she excelled in elementary music education. Beverly played the piano and organ in many recitals, weddings and events, and gave private music lessons on the piano. She also played the autoharp, recorder, xylophone, and any instrument that would hold her student’s attention.

Beverly met George Lloyd Brian, her husband of 61 years while a student at Lipscomb. Their family grew in the Nashville area where they raised three sons, emphasizing personal responsibility, Christian principles, and family togetherness. Beverly and her sister Justine were very close, and lived just minutes from each other through several moves in the area, eventually residing in Smyrna. They traveled together on occasion following retirement, both couples having motor homes. However Justine passed in December 2015. Following a debilitating illness, George passed in February 2017. Beverly enjoyed church singings, family gatherings, and close friends. She had beautiful handwriting, and was known for her many cards and letters of thanks, sympathy, or just to say she was thinking of someone.

Beverly is survived by her sons Michael (Lisa), Gene (Carol), and Edward (Tina). In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort Inc., 410 Allied Drive, Nashville, TN 37211 or to World Christian Broadcasting, 605 Bradley Court, Franklin, TN 37067.
