Bettie was preceded in death by her father, Orbie D. Nelson, her mother, Pauline Wills, and her sister, Doris Nelson Rose. Bettie is survived by her daughter, Dara Beazley Kimbrough; her three grandchildren, Abigail Cooper Kimbrough, Emma Grace Kimbrough and Olivia Kate Kimbrough; her best friend of 64 years, Barbara Jones Burns; and many cousins who continue to get together for Joe Goat Day each year.
Bettie was a 1955 graduate of David Lipscomb High School. Bettie had a long career at GMAC where she made so many great friends. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling all over the world. Her favorite part of retirement was being Bebe to Abby, Emma and Olivia.
She was a lifelong member of the Churches of Christ. Her most recent church home was The Church of Christ in Green Hills. She always spoke fondly of their church members. One of her favorite weeks each year was spent at the annual Caribbean Lectureship.
Visitation for Bettie will be 9:00 am – 10:00 am Saturday, February 24. Bettie’s funeral service is 10:00 am following visitation. Visitation and the service will be at The Church of Christ in Green Hills, 3805 Granny White Pike, Nashville, TN. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum, 660 Thompson Lane, Nashville, TN.
Active pallbearers will be Jim T. Baker, Larry Wells, Tom Wilson, Joe Simpson, Doug Jones, and Wavell Stewart. Honorary pallbearers are the elders at The Church of Christ in Green Hills: Mike Cochrane, Don Hudson, Cole Carter, Scott Ellis, Andy Bedingfield, and Ronnie Farris.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to Lipscomb University for the Nelson Grandchildren Scholarship or World Christian Broadcasting.
