Benson Bennett Sloan, III “Ben”, 70, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2017. Ben was born in Manhattan, NY on February 8, 1947 to the late Benson B. Sloan Jr. and Margaret Stephenson Sloan.
Ben is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jane Freeze Sloan; daughter Mary Douglas Sloan Fields (Jason Cole Fields), son Benson Bennett Sloan IV (Caroline Rhett Sloan), and granddaughter Lynne Rison Sloan.
He is also survived by his sister Stephanie Sloan Whitley.
Ben graduated middle school from The Buckley School (NY), high school from The Groton School (MA), and college from Trinity College (CT). He excelled in sports where he was captain of his high school football team and played college hockey. He was also a member of the Alpha Delta Phi fraternity.
Ben spent the early years of his professional career in finance in Manhattan with Manufactures Hanover before moving to Nashville. He was involved in many entrepreneurial endeavors, most recently as the founder of Greymont Kennels.
He was a culinary enthusiast, with a love for French cuisine and red wine. His passion in the kitchen benefited his family and friends and was ranked as the best restaurant in Nashville each year.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Nashville Humane Society or St. George’s Episcopal Church.
A visitation will be held at St. George’s Episcopal Church (4715 Harding, Rd, Nashville, TN, 37205) at 12:00pm, followed by a memorial service at 1:00pm on Wednesday June 7th.
