He was born on February 16, 1949, in Concord, Massachusetts to the late Benjamin L. Benoit Jr. and Natalie A. (Blanchard) Benoit. He attended Concord Carlisle High School ‘67, joined the Cadet Corps at Norwich University, and was commissioned in the Army upon graduation in 1971. He served a total of 23 years in the Army and Massachusetts National Guard as a Tank Commander, aide to Adjutant General Wayne F. Wagner, and coordinated the mobilization of National Guard forces for Operation Desert Storm, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Ben began a career in banking at five local and regional banks in Eastern Massachusetts starting as a teller and rising to Executive Vice President. He then founded his own consulting company, BLB Associates, Inc. and D-B Associates, a marketing and promotional sales company. He was an avid golfer, a fly fisherman, a lover of oldies music, and an enthusiastic lover of good food.
Ben was preceded in death by his brother David S. Benoit and is survived by his wife Betty J. Benoit, of Nashville, sister Suzanne (Benoit) Boudreau of Milford, New Hampshire, and his children Kathryn Jackson of Acton, Massachusetts, Peter Benoit of Los Angeles, California, Susan Anderson of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and Rachel Anderson of Hermitage, Tennessee. Grandchildren include Jacob Anderson, Andrew Jackson, Abby Anderson, Craig Jackson, Lucas Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Ryan Anderson, Katelyn Jackson, Zackery Anderson, Thomas Benoit and Jane Benoit.
Memorial services will be held at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville on Monday, December 5. Visitation hours will be 12-4 PM, followed by a chapel service at 4 PM. A military service and interment for family only will be held at Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, December 6.
