Returned from Barry's memorial service with mixed feelings.  Barry is no longer with us and that makes me sad, but he is with the Lord and that can only make me thankful and very glad. 

It makes me happy to realize that he is not dead in the sense that he's been destroyed, eliminated, or rendered non-existent. Barry is very much alive on another plane--in another, better, form--and is aware that those of us who know the Lord will also transform one day and join him in that place. 

"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." 1st Corinthians 2:9.

My prayers are with all of you, Barry's family, in this time of loss. I love you all.

I just returned home from Barry's memorial celebration.  What wonderful memories he left for Chad, Celia, Glenn, and the many others who knew and loved him.  My prayer is that these memories will bring you bits of joy as you grieve for your father, brother, uncle, and friend.  God bless each of you.

I am saddened to hear about the great loss of Dr. Stephens. When I came back to the United States from Israel, I took his classes. He inspired me to follow my dreams and goals. He will be truly missed by all...

We celebrate you today, Uncle Barry. We celebrate the man, colleague, brother, daddy, mentor, teacher, and most of all the brother in Christ, to so many. Someone said it best in a guest comment, that you now have a lesson to teach, and I am sure you are well prepared. That sums it up, all in one sentiment. Love to all the family, and what a blessing you left when you gave the world, Chad.

I am sorry I cannot make the celebration of Barry's life; however, please know that I am thinking and praying for all of his family.  Barry will truly be missed.  With grateful memories,  Brenda Dew

I was fortunate to have known Barry through my sister Cate. I was saddened to hear the news of his passing. He will be missed by many.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time, especially his son, Chad.

I am sorry to hear of Barry's passing.  He was a friend to my former husband, Ray Creel, and someone who grew up in my community of Sandusky.  May God bless his family at this sad time.

Barry was best friend of mine during the 1970's.  we worked together with the Alabama vocational rehabilitation service.  Such a kind person and true believer in our lord, Jesus Christ.  Loved his parents.  A true sports car enthusiast and all around wonderful person.

I was saddened to hear of Dr. Stephens' death. He taught me the very first graduate school class that I had at UA and then one more in a later semester. He was a very good teacher and a wonderful person. My sympathies go out to his family. God bless you.

Barry was such an amazing person and my friend for over 45 years.  My deepest sympathy to all that knew and loved him. May God bring comfort and peace to us all.

Barry was a great adventurer and lived life on his terms, and always at full speed.  He has touched many lives and has left wonderful, special memories with each of us. We will miss you Bear!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family.  Barry and I attended Minor High School at the same time..those were very fond memories.  He will be missed.

I am truly saddened by Barry's death. Barry was more than just a friend, he was an amazing person. His passing will not only leave a void in our lives, but in the hearts of everyone who knew him. I knew Barry from his days at the First Independent Methodist Church of Florence, AL. He was a friend and brother in Christ. He had a tremndous impact on my life and others of our group. My prayers and sympathy to his family.

Barry was a good friend, I will always remember his big smile and his eternal optimism! Prayers for his family and friends.
