Barbara Ann Maynard Friend of Nashville, Tennessee, passed through the veil of this life peacefully on Tuesday evening surrounded by her family. She was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on December 3, 1927, where she was Class Valedictorian at Girls Preparatory School. She went on to attend Duke University where she graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in English and Education. Her beauty was intrinsic and her positive influence was vast. She touched countless lives as a Christian, Bible camp art director, Girl Scout troop leader, civic and political organization officer, ladies’ Bible class teacher, elementary and high school educator, daughter, aunt, mother, and grandmother – always with love and an artistic flair. All those who knew her loved her well and will remember her brilliant mind and loving spirit. She is survived by her three children, Melissa Friend, Maynard Friend, and Barbara (Bobbie) Friend Nash; and her six grandchildren, Jennabeth Friend, Bonnie Friend, Bradley Nash, John Friend, Rebecca Friend Painton, and Brenton Nash. Visitation will be held at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home on Thursday, April 27, 2017, from five to eight o’clock in the evening, and again on Friday, April 28, 2017, from nine-thirty to eleven o’clock in the morning, followed by service at eleven, also at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Middle Tennessee Veteran’s Cemetery.
