Born in a different era to a farming family in Northern Alabama, Anne attended a one room schoolhouse taught by her cousin (Sybil). She and her siblings, older sister Frances and younger brother William, were raised on diligence, dedication, duty to community, and love for their creator. Anne learned to cook, can, clean, and sew from her mother-creating 3 beautiful quilts before moving to Nashville at 19 to become a Rosie the Riveter.
They grew their own food and caught fish from the Elk River, which also provided cold storage before the family owned an icebox. She met a handsome young sailor, George Edwards, just after he returned from the South Pacific in WWII. He proposed three months after meeting her. They remained happily married until his early death in 1979.
Their only child was a creative and compassionate daughter, Joyce (Mike Choate). Anne had two loving, loyal grandsons, Michael and Brian. She attributed her long life to hard work, exercise, healthy eating, enduring faith, and engagement: she was always interested in others and kept active in her hobbies. She played bridge, gardened, watched birds, and created cards, posting them to beloved friends and family. She was a longtime member of First Southern Methodist Church. Anne was a kind, gentle soul who always lived her life by the Golden Rule. She will be missed by many. Our loss is Heaven's gain. Anne's celebration of life will be Wednesday, Feb. 7th at 11:00 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Gilda's Club Middle Tennessee.
