Ann Workman Peffen of Nashville was born on April 12, 1927 in Rutherford, TN and passed away peacefully at age 89 on March 31, 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Harry W. Peffen Jr. and 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Mrs. Peffen is survived by her children, Kathy Burkhalter (Ted), Peggy Daniel (Gary), Mary Ruth Geny (Henry), Emily Peffen, Harry Peffen (Kathryn). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Tab Burkhalter (Kristi), Kristin Vance (Mark), Laura Wildman (Tad), Ben Daniel, Jennifer Geny, Elizabeth Geny, Charlie Geny, Will Peffen, Mary Caton Peffen; and 6 great grandchildren, Madelyn and Catherine Vance, Abbi, Mandi and Austyn Burkhalter, and Whitt Wildman; and her brother Gene Workman of Lebanon, TN and sister Mary Overall of St. Louis, MO.
Ann and her husband, Harry, co-founded Peffen Machine Company in 1950. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity for over 60 years where she served as President both locally and nationally. She was passionate about living out the mission of the Ladies of Charity by serving those in need. Recognition of her charitable work includes being an honoree for the Mary Catherine Strobel Award, recipient of the Volunteer Activist of the Year Award, and being honored by the Diocese of Nashville at the “Celebration of Service and Charity” Event. She helped start the Advocate Program at Bordeaux Hospital, served on the Board at Catholic Charities, and was a charter member of St. Henry Catholic Church. She was a long-time member of Hillwood Country Club, an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing all card games and spending time with family and friends.
On Sunday, April 2, the Rosary will be recited by the Ladies of Charity at 3:30 pm followed by visitation until 7:00 pm at St. Henry Catholic Church, 6401 Harding Rd. Nashville, TN. There will be a celebration of her life with Mass at St. Henry Church on Monday, April 3 at 10:00 am. Private burial will be on Tuesday April 4.
Active Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers will be all past and present members of the Ladies of Charity, BeBe McGehee, Joe Moore, Mel Harders, Bill Sinclair, Charlie Strobel, the Saturday Night Dalton’s Dinner group, and all nieces and nephews.
