passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024, at the age of 98.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Malinda Fort Hickman (Don) and
Carolyn Fort Montgomery (Terry), and her loving son, Frank "Scott" Fort
(Laura). Ann's legacy extends through her cherished grandchildren: Bradford
Fort Montgomery (Crystal), Richard Lynn Montgomery (Caroline), Jeffie
Hickman Cherry (Jim), and Ada Hickman Luther (Jonathan), as well as her
seven adoring great-grandchildren.
Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Richard Barr
Fort, her dear son Dr. Richard Barr Fort, Jr., and her parents, Frank Henderson
Scott & Jeffie Shivers Scott.
Born on February 9, 1926, in Nashville, TN, she attended West End High
School, then graduated from Ward-Belmont. She went on to earn an English
degree from Vanderbilt University. In 1947, she married her beloved husband,
"Dick," and they were blessed with four children. The family moved to Atlanta,
Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina before returning home to their beloved
Nashville in 1969.
Ann's faith was unwavering, as evidenced by her 60-year commitment to First
Presbyterian Church in Nashville. An avid gardener and member of the Singing
Hills Garden Club, she found solace and joy in the beauty of nature. She
enjoyed her membership with the Centennial Club of Nashville and
Cheekwood, but most importantly she valued the lifelong friendships she
formed with the ladies in these organizations.
Among her many joys in life, Ann cherished her time spent with family at their
lakehouse on Lake Lanier in Cummings, Georgia, and later at Tim's Ford Lake
in Winchester, TN. Affectionately known as "Granny Annie," she showered her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren with boundless love and affection.
Ann will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness, grace, and
unwavering love leave an indelible mark on the hearts of those she leaves
behind.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery on Monday,
February 26, 2024 at 11:00am with Dr. Sandra Randleman of First Presbyterian
Church of Nashville officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nashville Rescue Mission, First
