Alton Sidney King Sr.

KING, SR., Alton Sidney Died July 12, 2010 at his home in Donelson, TN. Mr. King was born on December 13, 1923 in Fayetteville, TN. The son of Sidney Johnson and Necie Blaylock King, he was the ninth of ten children. Mr. King was a graduate of Lincoln County High School, before earning a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Tennessee. In March of 1943, he joined the United States Army. Mr. King fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of Normandy during the Second World War; he also served in Germany and Belgium. After the war, he returned home and wed Pauline Alexander, to whom he was married for sixty-four years. Mr. King began his career at Equitable Insurance Company, before forming the Advanced Planning Insurance Agency. He later owned and operated the KW Distributing Company and Quality Income Tax, where he worked until his retirement in 2008. Mr. King was an active member of Andrew Price Methodist Church since 1952; he was also President of the Lions' Club in 1962 and 1963, and was a founding member of the Ravenwood Country Club. Above all else, Mr. King considered his family to be his greatest achievement. He is survived by his wife, Pauline and two sons, Dr. Sidney King, Gallatin (Lynn), and Dr. Bill King, Buckhead Georgia (Cherry). He is further survived by five grandchildren, Dr. Matt King (Claire), Andy King, Tim King, Adam King (Jamie), and Katie King; three great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. King was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane and eight siblings. Visitation will be held from 5-7 on Tuesday, at Hibbett & Hailey on Donelson Pike, and 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14th, at Andrew Price Memorial United Methodist Church on Lebanon Pike, with service to follow at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Hermitage Cemetery.
