Obituary of Georgia "Sam" Belle (Reif) Dryfoose
Georgia “Sam” Belle (Reif) Dryfoose, 80, of Brown County, IN beloved mother, sister, and dear friend passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at her home. She was born August 24, 1942 in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of the late Robert and Edith Reif. Georgia graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She won the Cincinnati teacher of the year award for the 1964-65 school year, her first year of teaching kindergarten. Georgia met Earl, “Buz” Dryfoose in the summer of 1969. They corresponded and during this time she acquired the nickname “Sam”. They were married in March of 1970. She then moved to Nashville, Indiana to continue her career as an elementary school teacher. She helped off and on at The Totem Post, a family business and travelled to Muzzle Loading Rifle shoots and Pow-Wows to help with the business. She was a lifetime member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association. During her time as a teacher she taught many students in the county, giving them a good start in the world of learning. She became beloved teacher, mother, and friend to many people with her warm personality. She was actively involved in Community Theatre and the local Historical Society. She travelled often with her husband to reunions for his naval career. They loved their home, life in the woods, and bird watching. She loved to play piano in her spare time and to read. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Georgia is survived by her brother, Thomas A. Reif and his wife Ruth; sister-in-law, Barbara Reif; step-children, Debra Wachtstetter and her husband John, Jeanne Butler, Renata Thomas, and Daniel Dryfoose; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl “Buz” Dryfoose, her brother, R. Daniel Reif, and a nephew, Mark Reif.
