Angela Parks, 58, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2022. Born on December 10, 1964 in Bloomington, IN. Angie was raised by Ruth Parks (nee Williamson) in beautiful Nashville, IN and attended Brown County High School. Angie was the quintessential middle child, with her quick smile, easy laugh, and love for the next challenge. She spent much of her time with her cousins and friends, and her antics are still spoken of in hushed tones. During this time, Angie found love early in life while riding the school bus, leading her to become a wife and mother at the age of 17.
Even at a young age, Angie was a nurturer with empathy for everyone. She grew up as a “little mother” for her younger sister, and then immediately transitioned into her role of actual mother to her baby girl, Shawna Kay. Angie was blessed again with another child at the age of 23–her son, Aaron. Angie’s children and "grandbabies" were her life, and she loved sharing pictures and stories of them with everyone. Family was everything and she instilled in her children the importance of heritage, family tradition and appreciating the generation that came before.
Angie was a free spirit who wanted to make the most of every day, leading to numerous interests. She loved cooking for her family and some of her most treasured possessions were the recipes and kitchenware from past generations. This appreciation of how food brings loved ones together was cemented by years of working along family at the Red Door, a historic Brown County establishment. She also expressed herself through visual art and would often take pictures or sketch things that inspired her. She appreciated nature and could be found hunting morels in the woods or caring for all the plants she “saved” from her friends and family. Being self-sufficient was also important to her and she sought trade skills she could learn–everything from putting up drywall to working “under the hood.”
Whether she was bantering with everyone in the kitchen, sitting at the dining room table drawing with her children, or beating “the boys” at cards and billiards, Angie had star quality that was undeniable, and she will be severely missed by those who knew and loved her.
Angie is survived by her daughter Shawna Roberts (Trey Rowland); and son Aaron Roberts (Paula Roberts); sisters Kay Gardner (Robert Gardner) and Paula Woods; brother, James Parks; granddaughters Paige Rowland and Marley Roberts; nephews Dustin Gardner (Brittany Gardner), Brandon Burton and Christian Woods; along with many other relatives and friends. Angie was preceded in death by her mother Ruth Parks; her father Harold “Bull” Parks; her brother, Harold Wayne Parks; her grandmother Edna Williamson; and her grandfather Paul Williamson.
A celebration of Angie’s life will be held at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home on January 15, 2023 from 1 PM to 5 PM. Contributions in Angie’s name may be sent to Indiana Recovery Alliance at https://indianarecoveryalliance.org/donate/.
