Hairstylist, Mother, Aunt, and Grandmother Louise J. Anton of Nashua, N.H. passed away on Monday, June 10th, 2019, in her home surrounded by loved ones. She was 83 years old. Louise immigrated to the United States from Lebanon as a 14 year old girl in 1949. She crossed the Atlantic on a cargo ship, alone, and while unknown to her at the time, she carried our family with her. She became a citizen shortly after she arrived in the US, and was able to then sponsor countless family members who were unable to apply for citizenship without her. She loved this country, and its streets paved with gold, where she was able to build the life that she wanted and live on her own terms. She exemplified the American ideals of liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness. She was a model citizen and an upstanding person with a very strong moral compass and a big heart. She had many friends and neighbors who she cared for deeply, and wherever she went, she spread love to the world. When you spoke to Louise, you could tell that she wanted to know everything about you, so that she could tell you everything about her. Most of these stories were shared over a big pot of lentils and rice that she had just taken off the stove, because as soon as you walked through her door, you must be fed. She was a woman unlike any other, devoted to her family above all else, with a kind spirit that filled any room she entered. She ran a beauty salon in the renovated basement beneath her home, and up until the three weeks before she passed away, was still giving customers their weekly set. She was fiercely independent and lived by her own rules, and was an instant friend to anyone she met. You could always count on Louise if you needed anything.
She is survived by her only son Joseph C. Anton of Mont Vernon, N.H., her daughter-in-law Leslie C. Anton, and her two grandchildren Zachary R. Anton and Isabella L. Anton. She may have only given birth to one son, but she was mother, aunt, and friend to many and loved anyone that crossed the threshold into her home. She was, is, and always will be deeply loved. Her wisdom and guidance was the cornerstone of the Anton family, and she will be remembered as the first of us to be an American, the matriarch of our family, and our most beloved teacher and guiding light. Her memory will always live in our hearts and minds, she was a most beloved and treasured member of our family.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 from 9-11am at the Zis-Sweeney & St. Laurent Funeral Home 26 Kinsley St, Nashua NH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Louise’s name to the Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Dr, Merrimack NH 03054.
