Born August 23, 1944 in Lowell to the late Ernest Broadbent and Marion (Brennan) Broadbent, Jim grew up in Tewksbury and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School class of 1962. He was a former employee of MBTA as member of Boston Carmen’s Union 589 for 14 years and former employee of Zeneca Resins for many years as member of Teamsters Local 25.
Jim cherished the times he spent with his family and friends. He was a great reader and when not reading a good novel, enjoyed all types of “word” puzzles. He was an avid sports enthusiast never missing a televised Red Sox or Patriots game. He bowled in both winter and summer leagues yearly at Brunswick (now Bowlero) lanes in Lowell, where Jim was well known by all. He coached youth bowling many of who would seek him out for advice, as they got older and bowled as adults. His “gruff” exterior only hid a heart of gold to all who knew and loved him.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Eleanor (Cawley) Broadbent, along with his four children; Keith and his wife Kelly of Dracut, MA; Kevin and his wife Jennifer of Derry, NH; Jim Jr. and his wife Barbara of Leominster, MA; and the sunshine of his life, his daughter Meaghan and her husband Michael Moore of Lowell, MA; 8 grandchildren, Victoria and Alex; Kevin, Sarah, Ryan and Eva Renee; and Michael and Aine Broadbent. He is also survived by his brother Richard and his wife Marie of White Plains, Maryland; his sister Nancy Doran of Nashua, NH; as well as many other family members, many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
We will all miss his dry sense of humor and great smile. Rest In Peace Jim, we love you!
