He was born in Boston, Mass. on April 19, 1938, where he was raised. He is the son of the late Ernest F. and Thelma (Cann) Costa.
Everett moved to Nashua after his marriage in 1958 and resided there until his move to FL in 2008. He was employed as a Detective Sgt. For the Nashua Police Department Juvenile Division and Polygraph Examiner until his retirement in 1983. During his law enforcement career he earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminology from St. Anslem College in Manchester, NH. He completed training in the latest methods of handling juvenile offenders from the University of Southern California’s Delinquency Control Institute and attended the Command Training Institute at Babson College, Wellesley, MA.
In 1969 Everett was awarded the Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award. He created the Junior Police League, the Youth in Athletics Program, the “Riddle of the Friendly Stranger”, the Junior Drug Awareness Program, and received numerous community awards. Everett was a member of the FOP, the Nashua Police Relief Association, the Elks Lodge, the NH Club of The Villages, the Indian Mound Country Club & Golf Course, the Nashua Area Law Enforcement Planning Council, The Governor’s Task Force in NH, and was the former president of the Mountview Community Association. He enjoyed golf, hockey, baseball, football; especially the Red Sox and N.E. Patriots; snow skiing, boating, traveling, dining and cooking and socializing. He loved his retirement and The Villages lifestyle. He enjoyed the numerous golf courses, the new friends he made, music and dancing at the squares, and his daily visit at the donut shop. Everett’s greatest achievement and love in life was his family and friends, he was a very dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty three years, Elizabeth (Petts) Costa; a daughter, Pamela Costa and her husband Bill McCabe of Nashua; a son, Jeffrey Costa and his wife Monica of Nashua; a brother Ernest Costa, Jr. and his wife Jan of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Monika Whitney, Erika Tardif, Jessika Costa and Sydney Costa Carpenito; and two great-grandchildren, Aias Dalman and Sophia Tardif; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 9 AM to 11 AM at ZIS-SWEENEY FUNERAL HOME, 26 KINSLEY STREET, NASHUA, NH 03060. A Memorial Service was celebrated at 11 AM in the Funeral Home. Burial was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Nashua, NH.
