Joan Colleen Walker Hofstetter, 88, passed away on November 10, 2023 in Miami, FL. She was born June 27, 1935 in the Post Graduate Hospital, a private home used as a hospital in Homestead, Florida before James Archer Smith Hospital was built. She was raised up in a Christian faith on a farm with her parents, John Robert Walker Sr. and Mable Colleen Cooley Walker Williford.
Joan married her high school sweetheart, Richard Henry Hofstetter, and settled in Miami, Florida. They were happily married for 65 years until Richard passed away on February 6, 2020. She has 2 brothers, Michael James Walker (Wife: Diana Walker) and John Robert Walker Jr. (Wife: Rita Walker). Surviving are her 3 children: Richard Phillip Hofstetter of Bartow, Florida (Wife: Cindy McKellar Hofstetter), Robert Andrew Hofstetter of Naples, Florida (Wife: Bridgett Hofstetter), and Nancy Colleen Hofstetter Fowler of Palmetto Bay, Florida (Husband: Christopher Fowler); four grandchildren: Bradley Phillip Hofstetter and Jacinda Rose Hofstetter of Bartow, Florida, Emma Anne Hofstetter of Maui, Hawaii, and Colleen Marie Fowler of Palmetto Bay, Florida; two step-grandchildren: Emily Lynn Collins and Bradley James Collins of Naples, Florida.
Joan graduated from Homestead High School, Class of 1952 and graduated from Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing located in Miami, Florida on May 27, 1960. She worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida and then Baptist Health Hospital on Kendall Drive in Miami, Florida where she retired. Afterwards, she worked in a surf shop, Jock Shop, before retiring again.
Joan loved gardening, sewing and baking. She organized the Junior Garden Club at Sunset Park Elementary as well as the Garden Club for Adults in Sunset Park community. She loved to sew making beautiful cross stitch pictures and sewing clothes for her children. She was best known for her cookies that she would make around Christmas time and made especially designed birthday cakes for her children. She was a wonderful, loving wife to Richard and loving, caring mother, grandmother, Aunt to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A private funeral service will be held 1 pm, Friday, November 17, 2023 at Caballero River Palms Funeral Home, 27100 Old Dixie Hwy, Naranja, FL 33032.
