GARY LEON SANDS

It is with much sadness to announce that Gary Leon Sands, Sr. passed away peacefully Mon., Oct. 2nd with his family by his side. He was the heart and soul of our family.

Gary was born in Miami, FL on January 3, 1942. He was the son of Willard and Elizabeth Sands. He graduated from Miami Senior High School in 1960.

In 1963 Gary married Bonnie J Bootes. They moved to Key Largo in 1965. They were blessed with 2 sons, Gary Jr. and David.

Gary was a commercial lobster fisherman from the time he graduated from high school until he became ill in March of this year. He loved fishing so much that he didn’t consider it work. At age 81 he was still fishing. Every day was a new adventure for him.

He was a member of the Organized Fishermen of Florida, Southeastern Fishing Association, and Florida Keys Fishing Association.

Gary will be remembered as a man of strength and love to his family and to his many friends.

Surviving Gary are his children Gary Jr. (Melanie) of Key Largo, grandson, Samuel of Key Largo, grandson, Joshua (Nina) of Ft. Myers, son David of Key Largo, and many nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Elizabeth Sands, his brother, Roy Sands and sister, Gail Watkins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Key Largo on November 4th at 1:00 PM.
