Victor Cornell Brown Sr. DVM

Victor Cornell Brown Sr., DVM, 66, passed away on March 10, 2021 while hospitalized at Physicians Regional Hospital in Naples, Florida. He was born in 1954 in Jacksonville, Florida to parents Elmer Randolph Brown and Mary Jane.

Victor graduated from William M. Raines Senior High School in 1972. He was chosen as one of the “foremost young scientific minds of the nation” in the 31st Westinghouse Talent Search and earned a first-place prize. His project was titled: “PH Changes During Peptic Digestion”. He was also a member of the “It’s Academic Team” and was recognized by receiving the “Harvard Book Award” for being an outstanding junior. He was in the National Honor Society, the Foreign Language Club and voted most ambitious in his yearbook.

Upon completing high school, Victor received a scholarship from Florida State University where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in 1977. While attending FSU, he became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at FAMU, the Alpha Xi chapter. Later he became a chartered member of the Theta Eta chapter at FSU. In 1983 Victor completed his Doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Dr. Brown moved to Naples in 1984 where he began working for the Humane Society prior to establishing his own practice in 1986. Dr. Brown was an accomplished veterinarian who served the Golden Gate community for over 35 years. In addition to his successful practice, he gave back to his field by mentoring fellow veterinarians and by providing externship opportunities for veterinary students. For many years, Dr. Brown volunteered at the Collier County and Hendry County Spay and Neuter clinics. He also volunteered his time to the local schools and the local Boys and Girls Club of America.

Victor enjoyed fishing, attending Miami Dolphins football games, fantasy football and basketball. He spent lots of time gardening and enjoyed planting trees, vegetables, and plants in his yard. He enjoyed traveling and some of his favorite trips were to Egypt, South Africa, London, Maui, and the Bahamas. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Victor is survived by his wife, Tonya (Buchanon); mother, Mary Jane Lee; children, Maurice Brown (Arelys), Victor Brown, Jr., Jendaya Brown, Terence Maxwell, and Tierra Maxwell; 6 grandchildren; 3 sisters and 7 brothers; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his father Elmer R. Brown.

A celebration of life is being held at Hodges Funeral Home at the Memorial Gardens on Friday, March 19th at 2:00 PM. Public visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.
