Ted was born September 29, 1925, to Theodore and Clara in Paterson, NJ. After Ted graduated from Eastside High in Paterson, where he was a star baseball and basketball player and voted the class “Adonis,” he enlisted in the Navy in which he served honorably during WWII. After the war he attended the University of Michigan and earned a B.S. in Engineering Mechanics.
After graduating from Michigan, he began a career as a manufacturing executive that would include leadership positions in a number of Fortune 500 companies. His career took him to various locations, including New Jersey, Massachusetts, Ohio, Indiana and ultimately Florida where he was part of the executive leadership team at the former Coulter Electronics in Hialeah until his retirement in 1988.
When he was young, Ted distinguished himself in baseball and basketball. In later years he brought his athletic skill to golf, at which he excelled, scoring more than a few Holes-in-One, and tennis under the tutelage of Carol, an accomplished tennis player in her own right. And when he was not playing sports, he was a devoted University of Michigan football fan.
Ted was also an avid reader with his interests leaning to business, politics, history, and economics. He would anxiously await delivery of his weekly Barron’s, which he devoured from cover to cover, and no day was complete without multiple checks of the stock market.
Ted’s keen and active mind was with him to the end. Ever inquisitive, his pursuit of knowledge never wavered. Many were the spirited discussions he led on a broad spectrum of topics from politics to law, from sports to finance, from business to world affairs. He brought his own special passion to all such discussions and heaven help the participant who was unprepared to engage with him.
Ted is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol, as well as his children, Craig (Mary); Leslie; Jeffrey (Joan); and Bonnie (Marcus); and 7 grandchildren, Judson, Daniel, Noelle, Ryleigh, Joshua, Hayley (Christopher Mosby), Charlotte (Thomas Burns) . . . and his beloved cat, Oreo.
Ted will be remembered and his life celebrated among family and friends in a private ceremony. Those wishing to honor Ted are urged to donate to Avow Hospice of Naples or the charity of your choice in his memory.
