Suzanne Mary Lambert (nee Steinbeck), 88, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on June 12, 2020 to join her husband of 60 years R. Gilbert Lambert Jr. She will be remembered for her bright smile, kindness, thirst for knowledge, compassion for others and positive outlook on life. She will also be remembered for being a dedicated, loving and passionate, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Suzanne “Sue” was born on Sept. 11, 1931 in Wyandotte, Michigan, to Catherine and John Steinbeck. She grew up in Wyandotte, Michigan and began her college education attending Western Michigan University, until she needed to go earn money to finish her education. She worked at the Ford Motor Company as an executive secretary to a Vice President and it was there that she met her husband to be, R. Gilbert “Gil” Lambert Jr. They were married Nov. 16, 1957 at the Martha Mary Chapel in historic Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan. Sue was a “super mom” and continued her education while raising 3 young children. She received a B.A. from the University of Michigan in Biology and Psychology in 1975, an Associate Degree in Nursing from Oakland Community College in 1978 and a M.A. in Counseling from Oakland University. She worked as a nurse at the University of Michigan Hospital, Beaumont Hospital and was one of the first nurses to help with the emerging hospice program in the 1970’s.
Sue is survived by her children, Deborah S. Hertz, Douglas G. Lambert and Jeffrey T. Lambert; her grandchildren, Devin G. Lambert, Jamie C. Lambert, Rachel S. Hertz and Benjamin E. Hertz and her great grandsons Roman C. Lambert and Valor T. Lambert.
Sue’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all the kind, loving, compassionate and capable staff of The Chateau and Moorings Park for their tender care, especially during this time of the Covid19 pandemic when you have been a loving extension of our family. We are forever grateful.
