During WWII Sandra and her mother, Helen, returned to Sweetwater and Lociden, Tennessee to live with family until the war ended.
Sandra’s early school years were spent in Eastern Tennessee.
Later, and particularly during her High School Years, The Abernathy family lived in Ft. Worth, Texas and Sandra graduated from Arlington Heights High School in 1960.
Sandra graduated from Florida State University in 1964 and began her working career in Orlando, Florida. In 1966 Sandra and family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she secured a position as an executive secretary for the Cadillac Motor Car Division, Jacksonville Zone Office.
From Jacksonville, Sandra moved on the launch a 15 year real estate career spanning from Ft. Lauderdale to Panama City and Punta Gorda, Florida.
On November 6, 1982 Sandra and Bob Taylor married and Sandra closed out her real estate career to become Bob Taylor’s full-time partner in each of their dealerships. Since January 9, 2009 Sandra has been President and CEO of Bob Taylor Chevrolet, Inc. of Naples, Florida…a dealership that opened for business on October 2, 1969, 45 years ago.
The personal side of Sandra was much softer than her business identity. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, and wife who has loved being part of the lives of her sons, Rodney Nettles of Naples, Florida and Steve Nettles of Folsom, California, and her precious grandson, Sam Nettles, of Folson, California.
Sandra’s primary passion outside of taking care of her family and successfully handling all the demands of a busy dealership has been photography. Specifically travelling throughout most of the south central countries of Africa on photographic safaris. These trips to Africa with her friends have been the occasions that she has looked forward to on her calendar each year since 1990. These safari trips have resulted in a deep love and respect for the beautiful animals and landscapes that she felt so privileged to capture in her photographs.
Private funeral and entombment services are being held under the direction of Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Park Cemetery in Naples, Florida.
