Born October 7, 1947 to Jeanne Therese McNichol Reiss and Robert Sherwood Reiss at St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Embraced by the Lord on March 31, 2018.
At a young age of 13, Bob went to work at his dad's BLVD Service Center (Hollywood, FL) learning home appliance repair. Bob moved to Naples in 1968 and began a long career in the construction industry, ultimately finding his niche as an air conditioning contractor. His knowledge, honesty, and good will were valued in all his personal and professional relationships. After working for local HVAC companies in various positions over many years, Bob opened his own business and continued to serve the community. Rarely was Bob ever seen idle, working until January of this year.
Bob loved to work with his hands. He was always working on something around the house, on his boat, or helping friends and neighbors with various tasks. A skilled mechanic and carpenter, he even built a house in the 70s in Roseboom, NY with a couple friends. It still stands to this day.
Bob's hobbies included many things, his biggest loves being planes and boating. Recently, he enjoyed building, flying, and sometimes repairing model airplanes with the Collier Model Aeronautic Club and mentoring cadets as the commander of the Naples Cadet Squadron, Civil Air Patrol. Earlier in life, Bob spent a lot of time SCUBA diving with friends, family, and the Jedi Divers. He had also been a Committee Chairman for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a fan of racing of all sorts and made it a tradition to bring his loved ones to the 12 Hours of Sebring in Sebring, Florida whenever he was able.
Bob is survived by his wife of 33 years, Frances Reiss, sons Joshua Reiss (Amy Malcuria-Swatling), Justin Reiss (Melody Reiss), Jared Reiss, grandson Eli Reiss, sister Carole Madsen, nephews Rex Scanlan, Free Taylor and Sean Madsen and many more cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and adoptive mother May Corbluth Reiss.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM Friday, May 11, 2018 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens 525-111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108. The family is forever grateful for the kindness and compassion of the staff at Avow Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob's memory to Avow that they may continue to care for those in our community: avowcares.org.
