He was born on February 22, 1942 in Havre de Grace, Maryland to Eugene and Josephine (Sherman) Deppisch.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Eugene, his mother, Josephine, and his older brother, James.
He is survived by his wife Deborah, his four children, Richard (Cheryl) Deppisch, Kristen (Darren) Weisberg, Carolyn (Jeff) Konz, Robert (Lara) Deppisch, his brother Richard (Rochelle) Deppisch, sister Jerelyn (Robert) Reher, sister Mary Jo Deppisch-Herold, ten grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He attended Salesianum High School in Wilmington, Delaware and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (Graphic Design) from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, 1964.
Bob served in the US Army from 1964 – 1968 as First Lieutenant in Germany. He attended his OCS 50-year reunion in 2018 and continued to stay in touch with his fellow Army buds. He was very proud to be recently honored by the local DAR chapter (Naples) for his service during the Vietnam Era. He was presented with the Quilt of Honor and 50 year Vietnam Era Commemorative Pin.
While on tour in Germany, he met and married (June 18, 1966) Cynthia Jo Peasley (Stronghurst, IL), mother of Richard, Kristen and Carolyn. She passed away on March 20, 1977 of Melanoma cancer.
On June 2, 1979, he married Deborah Gallaugher, and together they enjoyed 43 years raising a new family. They raised two sons: Richard and Bobby, and two daughters, Kristen and Carolyn. His ten grandchildren were the love of his life, Mikaela Deppisch, Tristan Deppisch, Nathan Deppisch, Porter Weisberg, Charlie Weisberg, Sloane Weisberg, Burke Konz, Genevieve Konz, George Deppisch and Henry Deppisch. Bob also enjoyed Deborah’s family of five sisters and one brother, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Following his advertising career in Chicago with Needham, Harper & Steers (DDB Worldwide) and Flair Merchandising, he co-founded and was President/CEO of Marketing/Promotional Expressions. For almost 50 years in Chicago and Lake Forest, Illinois, his creativity, talent and quick wit became well known in the consumer product industry from coast-to-coast. After retirement, he began substitute teaching with Lake Forest schools, Kohler Elementary, Collier County Public Schools and Community School of Naples; he was fondly known as “Sir.” He thoroughly enjoyed his days of teaching and interacting with every child he met.
Bob had a wide variety of passions: jokes, magic tricks and riddles for the grandkids, singing, woodworking, cooking, and entertaining. He also loved to garden. His pen and ink drawings of homes, cars, airplanes, dogs and various schools were much admired not only by friends and family but also by all his loyal customers on Etsy. He was also an avid music lover and a collector of US patriotic music.
He was known for his infectious smile, his kind and compassionate spirit, and his never-ending puns.
Bob sang with the St. Patrick’s Parish Choir in Lake Forest for many years as well as the Paradise Coastmen Barbershop Chorus and St. William Catholic Church in Naples, Florida.
A Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lake Forest, Illinois at a later date, followed by a Celebration of Life with family and friends at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Jeffrey Konz.
