Our mother loved God’s word. An early childhood memory, growing up in Naples as a fisherman’s daughter, was her daddy placing his hand on her head as she repeated “Jesus, make me a good girl and take me to heaven.” In the early morning hours on October 17th the One who loves her the most took our virtuous Mother to heaven.
Born September 7, 1923, she lived 99 years, as a good daughter to parents, Robert and Marilea Storter, sisters Betty and Marguerite, brother Lemuel, loving wife for 70 years to William (Bill) Savidge, and mother to four daughters, ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson. Her final years were spent in the loving care of daughter Billie and granddaughter Mindy in Tennessee.
A wise mentor, counselor and prayer warrior, family and friends could call day or night, and knew the moment the phone was down she’d be on her knees. At all times, “In her tongue was the law of kindness.” Her hands were always ready to prepare food for family and those in need. A joy in later years was sewing over 200 comfort quilts for friends and strangers. “She will do good all the days of her life.” And she did. We have been left a heritage far above rubies.
Oliva was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter, Peggy Gammell.
She is survived by her daughters; Billie Mochow, Barbara Cain, Betty Briggs, 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great great- grandson.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108 followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM and interment in Naples Memorial Gardens.
