Growing up as the son of a coal miner he began his early career as a Union Organizer for Local 50 of the Teamsters Union. Eventually he and his bride Alice settled in CT to raise their six children. He worked many years in the restaurant business and later in real estate. They devoted their spare time to St. John the Baptist and St Martin DePore churches in New Haven. Upon moving to Naples in 1986 Marlin quickly became a dedicated “neighbor of neighbors”. He worked tirelessly for years as a board member of the Lake Park Neighborhood Association, establishing a neighborhood camaraderie among the families of Lake Park. He assisted in the creation of the Naples Preserve, 9.5 acres of in-town woodlands and was actively involved in protecting the small town character of Naples. He made many friends working at Publix during his "retirement" years.
Marlin aka Poppy was a loving, devoted father and a grandfather who lit up when he spoke of his seven grandchildren; Bracken, Caitlin, Ryan, Brenden, Connor, Noah and Kararose. He will forever be cherished in memory by them and his four loving daughters, Eleanor "Lea" Brennan of Naples; Carol (Dennis) Murphy of Bethany, CT; Mary (Tim) Hardman of Naples; Kathleen (Joe) McMonigle of Naples, his loving son Marlin and our caring, dedicated sister/daughter in law (earth angel) Jan Brennan.
Always quick to find the humor in the irony of everyday life, he will be greatly missed.
