Larry Mumford, age 79, of Naples, Florida passed away on April 6, 2025. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 9, 1945 to parents, Alfred and Mildred Mumford. Larry graduated from Dearborn High School in Dearborn, Michigan, and then went on to study Accounting and Business Administration at Texas A&M University. Upon graduation he held several auditor and accounting positions. He then met his wife of 47 years, Carol, while studying for his MBA at Wayne State University where he was a Graduate Teaching Fellow. He went on to become an Assistant Professor at Wayne State before taking an Associate Professor position at Lawrence Technological University. There he initiated the Computer Information Systems concentration and also taught Accounting. He loved his students, and being an educator. In 1997 he and his family moved permanently to Naples, Florida where he worked at various non-profit organizations, most notably The Guadalupe Center in Immokalee, Florida where he served as the Controller. He had a passion for Texas A&M University and college football, was an avid reader of mysteries, was an Eagle Scout, enjoyed playing cribbage, family get-togethers, and visiting with friends. While living in Naples he served as the Treasurer of the local Civitan organization, and as a Board member for their Home Owners Association. Larry was a very loving, loyal and generous man. His family (including his dogs), and church family were very important to him. Larry is survived by his wife, Carol, his son, Sam Mumford, his daughter, Cailin Humphries (Kyle), grandson, Kain Humphries, and his nephews, Al Mumford (Maria), and Larry Mumford II. He is a brother of the late Ron Mumford (Sharon). A memorial service will be held on May 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Covenant Church of Naples, 6926 Trail Blvd., Naples, Fl 34108.
