There are a few special people in each of our lives, ones we maintain a connection with regardless of the distance between us or the time that's passed.

Judy Oliver was one of my special people. We were the best of friends. She was the only girl at my ninth birthday party, and despite the odds, we stayed in touch off and on through the intervening decades.

Sadly, one of the inescapable parts of growing older is having to say goodbye to those who've shared so much of our life. 

Rest in peace, my friend.
