Joseph Curcio, age 89, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2017. Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY, the 7th of 9 children to Maria and Alessandro Curcio, originally from Messina, Sicily. In 1944, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy as Seaman First Class on the USS Gasconade in WWII.
Joe retired at the age of 77, after a long career designing and manufacturing industrial lighting fixtures and was very active in his community as a member of the Bonita Springs-Estero Elks Lodge, American Legion, and the Eagle’s Aeries Club.
Joe was a true gentleman, full of laughter, wisdom and love. He believed that family came first, and all those he called friend became his family. He impacted many lives, was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Joe was the beloved husband of Eileen Curcio, devoted father of Heather Saladino and husband Paul of Arlington, VA and Eileen Calvo and husband Michael of Wilmington, MA, loving grandfather "Papa Joe" of Devin and Aidan Calvo, and dear brother of Sarah Barba of St. James, NY. Joe is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial celebration of Joe’s life will be held at the Bonita Springs-Estero Elks Lodge, 3231 Coconut Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34134 on Sunday April 2, 2017 from 1-4 pm.
