John William Ray Sr.

John was born in Bishop, CA to Edgar R. Ray & Imogene Mallory on April 13, 1948. He went to school in Wasco, CA. He married Barbara J. Toves (Twomey) on August 25, 1990 in Santa Barbara, CA. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara and the United States Navy Senior Enlisted Academy. He worked in Construction in the Safety and Quality Management Division for KBR for 20 years. He was a veteran of numerous conflicts including Vietnam and served in the Navy for 27 years and was awarded Meritorious Service, Navy and Marine Corp Commendation, Navy and Marine Corp Achievement, Navy Good Conduct, Navy Expeditionary, National Defense Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary, Vietnam Service, Humanitarian Service, Vietnam Campaign, and Navy Rifle Marksmanship, as well as ribbons including Navy Meritorious Unit, Navy Pistol Marksmanship, Global War on Terrorism and the Navy E ribbon. He was also a Legionnaire and Veteran of Foreign Wars. John was stationed in various places around the globe including RTC San Diego, SW/EO “A” School Port Hueneme, Naval Station Adak, U.S. NMCB Eleven, U.S. NMCB Five, Naval Air Station Alameda, U.S. NMCB Forty, NCTC Port Hueneme, CBPAC Equipment Office, U.S. NMCB Three, NAVRES Cargo Handling, Training Battalion, CBLANT Norfolk, VA, and COMSECONDNCB Norfolk, VA.

John is survived by his spouse, Barbara; and his children, John Jr., Sheri, Christine, Patricia, Mark and Kimberly.

A Memorial for John will be held at 11:30AM on December 26, 2024 at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens.
