Joan Marie (Berg) Cline of Naples, FL, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025. Formerly of Arlington Heights, IL she had been a full-time Naples resident since 2017. Joan was born May 18, 1951, in St. Paul, MN, the beloved daughter of Merlin and Olga Berg.
Joan received her BA in Anthropology from Barnard College, Columbia University. After graduation she started a career in banking, working for major banks in NYC and Chicago. She retired as a private investment banker for JP Morgan Chase.
Joan married John Cline and traded an urban lifestyle for a new family in the suburbs of Chicago. It was there that she was able to revisit her childhood love of riding horses, English style. She continued practicing and competing up until her retirement.
Joan also loved swimming and sunshine, convincing John to exchange the cold, Midwest winters for the warmer climate on the Gulf Coast of Florida. They looked forward to visits from family and friends, taking them to the local shops and restaurants. Joan especially enjoyed the symphony, art museum, and botanical gardens.
The family wants to sincerely thank Maria Viera and Julissa Hernandez for their love, compassion and nursing care over the last several years with both Joan and John. Joan is survived by their children, Kelly (Mike) Drapeau of Iowa and Jason (Mary) Cline of Illinois, grandchildren (Katie, Nate, Natalie, and Alex), sister and brother-in-law Maggie Urbanik and Joe (Susan) Cline, many nieces and nephews, and close cousins Mary Saboe and Emily Anderson.
