Jane L. Anderson, 91, of Naples, Florida, passed away on March 4, 2014, after a battle with cancer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on May 12, 1922, the youngest of three daughters belonging to John and Olive Willoughby.
She was a member of the 1938 Graduating Class of Batavia High School in Illinois. As a high school track star, she excelled in the high jump and qualified for the runner-up team for the 1940 Olympic Games, which unfortunately did not take place because of World War II.
Jane married Carl N. Anderson of Batavia in April 1943, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. They moved to Naples in 1956 where they raised their three children and operated a construction business together. In 1962 they moved to Palm River Estates, built the Fairways Motel and numerous homes in the community and Willoughby Acres.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who believed in strong family values. Always an avid reader, she explored the world through her love of books. After her husband’s retirement and passing, with all of her children grown, she found the opportunity to broaden her horizons. In addition to visiting points of interest in the U.S. and Canada, she traveled to England, France, the USSR, Africa, Sweden, and the Netherlands.
In her advanced years she continued to enjoy her homemaking, church, the library, maintaining her own lawn and gardens and knitting until very recently.
She is survived by her children: Judy (Curtis) Weeks of Naples, David Anderson of Naples, and Janet Anderson of Monticello, GA; granddaughter Janet (Bruce) Dattilo and great-grandchildren Bryce, Keith and Meredith Dattilo of Naples; her niece, Margaret (Larry) Hoffman of Omaha, NE; grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank VITAS Hospice for their excellent care and consideration. In lieu of flowers we request that contributions be made in her memory to VITAS Hospice at 4980 Tamiami Trail N. Suite 102, Naples, Fl. 34103.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11AM at the Faith Lutheran Church on Goodlette-Frank Road in Naples.
