Harold (“Hal”) E. Rosen, 81, of Naples, Florida, devoted husband and father, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, surrounded by his family and their love. He was born February 11, 1935 to Benjamin and Ethel (Hoffman) Rosen in Elizabeth, New Jersey and graduated from Cornell University and with honors from Cornell Law School in 1956 and 1958, respectively.
Hal Rosen began his professional career at the New York office of the law firm, Kaye Scholer LLP (formerly, Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays and Handler) and went on to become a Partner of the firm. He left Kaye Scholer to join Hartz Mountain Industries, Inc. as a Principal, acting as the Executive Vice-President and General Counsel, where he led the development of land owned by Hartz Mountain, known as the Meadowlands in Secaucus, New Jersey, which development included industrial, office, retail, hotel and residential space. After his career in real estate development, Hal Rosen returned to the practice of law at the New York office of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP as a Senior Partner and Chairman of the Real Estate Department until he retired in June, 1996.
Hal Rosen spent his retirement in Naples, Florida, enjoying his family, golf and fly fishing. He was an active member of the community where he lived and served on the Quail Creek Estates Homeowner’s Board and as a member of the Board of Directors of Quail Creek Country Club.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Harriet (Gottlieb) Rosen and his parents, Benjamin and Ethel Rosen, Hal Rosen is survived by his loving family: his wife, Carol (Van Vlaanderen) Rosen; his four children, Alexa, Jonathan, Bari and Gary Rosen; and his sister, Diane Rosen.
Hal will be remembered by friends and family for his quick wit, story-telling, kind heart and gentle nature, and above all his unconditional love and devotion to his family.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 16th at 2 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave. N., in Naples, FL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hal Rosen’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Cancer Research Institute.
