Born in Beverly, MA, he resided there most of his life before retiring to Florida in 1999. He was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1955.
A military veteran of the cold war and the beginning of the Vietnam campaign, he served three years in the United States Army, including overseas duty as an aircraft navigation specialist at the Army airfield in Heidelberg, Germany.
For thirty-five years, he was employed by Jordan Marsh Company in Boston and Burlington, MA and Bedford, NH and retired as a buyer of woman’s outerwear.
An avid traveler, he made thirty-two trips visiting 16 countries in Europe and five in Asia. In 2003, he drove 11,000 miles across the country visiting 12 National parks with a stop in one of his favorite places, Las Vegas.
Also a struggling genealogists, who, over 15 years of research, compiled a family history of more than 3,600 relatives. He was a member of the Genealogy Society of Collier County for 10 years and on the Board of Directors for 5 years.
Mr. Gray was predeceased by his three sisters, Rosamond Morse of Beverly, MA, Marilyn Coulombe of Barrington, NH, and Pamala Van Dyke of Tewksbury as well as a nephew, David Morse of Lynn, MA.
He is survived by his brother in law, Albert Morse of Beverly, MA and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Burial is at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Services private.
