On Thursday, June 17, 2021 George Walter Hoss of Port Charlotte, Florida succumbed to cancer after a long and courageous battle. George was 85 years young. He was born January 16, 1936 in Harviell, Missouri to Walter and Freda Evelyn (Rushin) Hoss.
George was so proud of his Air Force service during the Korean War. He served a total of 8 years, and during that time he was stationed in England where he met his adoring wife of 64 years, Olive. After his honorable discharge he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Electronics Technician. During his tenure with the Air Force and FAA we journeyed through ten states; organized and pragmatic packing skills soon became second nature to our vagabond family. Memories were not tangible but instead appeared in the form of the dreaded slide show, often shared and certainly the highlights of evenings with friends and family…. Gotta love those 60’s!
Travel was one of George’s passions, which continued after his retirement at age 49. He and Olive traveled across this country in a large camper, spending most of their time in the desert Southwest before finally settling in Florida. George was an avid gardener; his zeal to grow the perfect tomato was second only to his desire to enjoy the first BLT of the season. He will be remembered for showing us what integrity was and meant and teaching us to hunt, fish and how to grow a garden. He will be missed for all of these things and being our No.1 Computer Guru.
George is survived by his wife Olive Winifred (Green) Hoss of Port Charlotte; daughter, Donna J. Hoss-Green of Newport News, VA; son, Michael K. Hoss of Oakford, IL. Four grandchildren; David A. Blessman and husband Neil A. Williams of Naples, FL.; Sarah (Abby) Blessman Dyson and husband Justin L. Dyson of Chandlerville, IL; Clara R. Hoss of Virginia, MN; Dustin W. Hoss of MN as well as two great grandchildren Justin L. Dyson, Jr. and Jilian E. Dyson of Chandlerville, IL.
Preceding George in death are his parents, Walter and Evelyn Hoss, and his Grandparents, George and Sarah Leona Rushin.
George will be accorded Full Military Honors at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL. on June 29th, 2021 at 12:30pm.
