Franjo “Frank” Vasilj, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13th, 2024 at the age of 82. Frank was born to parents Ilija and Matija Vasilj on November 13th,1941 in Medjugorje, Hercegovina. Frank immigrated to the United States on May 19th, 1967, sponsored by Fr. Vendelin Vasilj.
Frank was introduced to Denka at a dance being held at St. Jerome parish in Chicago; Not long after, they were married at Sacred Heart parish in South Chicago on November 2nd, 1968; They remained active members of Sacred Heart, where Frank served as an usher at Sunday mass for several years. Frank was a very hardworking family man, he overcame many challenges and instilled strong values in his children and grandchildren.
Frank and Denka became permanent residents of Fort Myers, Florida in 2010 and although he retired from the Janitors Local Union 1, Frank continued to be busy and productive in his community. In retirement, Frank discovered a passion for tennis and played on his community tennis team.
Above all of his life’s accomplishments was the loving compassionate care he gave Denka each and every day, providing her with constant love and support, until her passing on October 4th, 2020. They shared a beautiful life together and were happily married for 52 years.
Frank was the beloved father to Diana (Andy) Canfield and Ivo (Chrissy) Vasilj, proud Dedo to Brittany, Giana, Dominik, and Olivia, and “Big Dedo” to Elianna, Everly, Josie, and Jack.
Frank's unwavering faith, family values, and legacy will endure for generations.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, September 20th at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 625 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108 immediately followed by graveside service at Naples Memorial Gardens, 525 111th Ave N, Naples, FL 34108
