She graduated from Sedalia High School in Kentucky in 1943 and moved to Mayfield where she met and married her husband, Tudor Griffith Jones, Jr. in 1948. Evelyn and Tudor enjoyed many wonderful years raising their three children in Mayfield where Evelyn was actively involved in the First Christian Church and enjoyed golfing and playing bridge with her many friends.
Evelyn and Tudor moved the family to Naples, Florida, in 1965 and opened the Jones Hardware Store on Marco Island. As her children grew older, she returned to work in retail sales and eventually served as the manager of the bath department at Gattle’s of Naples for more than 20 years. While living in Naples she was an active member of the Trinity-by-the-Cove Episcopal Church and the First Christian Church.
Evelyn loved being in the kitchen, entertaining, visiting with friends and family, and watching her grandsons grow up into young men. She was a beautiful dancer, a wicked bridge player, and an avid putt-putter in her community of Arbor Trace.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters Sarah Evelyn Jones and Julie E. Jones Deuschle; son, Tudor Griffith Jones, III and his wife Linda; grandsons Chase Brantley Deuschle and Brandon Charles Deuschle; and brother, Kenneth Emerson and his wife Joyce of Mayfield, Ky. She will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Tudor G. Jones, Jr., her sister, Sarah Emerson Maddox of Mayfield, Ky. and her parents James Aubrey and Johnnie Caldwell Emerson of Sedalia, Ky.
A service and celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Tower Pointe at Arbor Trace, 1001 Arbor Lake Drive, Naples, FL 34110 on the 17th Floor in the “Top of the Pointe” room from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance can be made in her honor to Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Attn: Shore Bird Monitoring Project, 1495 Smith Preserve Way, Naples, FL 34102 (https://www.conservancy.org/donate) or to Avow Hospice, Avow Office of Development, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105-3847 (http://avowcares.org/donate).
